What are email aliases?
Email aliases allow you to have assign more than one email address to your email account. For example, you may want to use a few different email addresses on your site such as:

info@mydomain.com
Email aliases allow you to have all the email sent to the above addresses to your norrmal email account. This way, you can get email from 4 different email addresses sent to the same account, so you don't have to check four different email accounts.
